About Volgograd Museum of Weights and Measures
The Volgograd Historiсal and Technical Museum of Weights and Measures is a reason to be proud of for the factory’s personnel. The growing year by year exhibit of the museum is the most significant and entertaining thematic collection in the country.
Origin:
The museum's collection was commenced in the early 1990s. At that time the first samples of antique weights and scales appeared in the factory, they were brought by employees from remote installations, some of them inherited from grandfathers and great-grandfathers or bought as souvenirs. Interesting specimens were inherited from the funds of the Volgograd plant Etalon, which collapsed in the early 1990s. For many years, the collection was kept within the enterprise, without official status and remaining practically closed to visitors.
An order for creation of the Historical and Technical Museum of Measures and Weights at the factory was signed on December 29, 2009. Soon, a unique and, by that time, already huge collection was moved to the management company office. Since then, it became available to everyone. In 2012, the museum collection already numbered more than 2000 exhibits.
Museum today:
Among the items dated XII - XX centuries, one can see scales, weights, scalebeam, books, documents, photos, cards in the exhibition. Along with rare specimens produced in Russia, the collection contains genuine metrological items from all over the world.
The Museum of Measure and Weights strongly cooperates with Volgograd museums, jointly organizes temporary exhibitions. Moreover, the partnership with foreign colleagues is actively being formed. Since 2012, the museum has been an honorary member of the International Association of Collectors of Antique Scales ( ISASC) (E), and in 2013 the museum joined the German community of collectors and metrologists of “Maß und Gewicht”.
