In 1998 in Gumpolec, the opening of the private Museum of Scales took place. Its owner, the Czech collector Miroslav Moravec, started collecting antique scales in 1979. The first exhibit was the Kamor pan balance, which was complete with a set of copper weights. Initially, the purchase was intended for kitchen decoration. However, after a few months, Miroslav Moravec purchased some more old rarities, for the storage of which he made special shelves. Just a few years later, his collection of kitchen scales numbered several hundred exhibits. The history of weighing fascinated Miroslav Moravec so much that he began to purposefully collect scales of various designs and purposes. To date, his collection numbers more than 1,000 antique scales from all over the world.
